In a remarkable display of financial stewardship, the newly appointed Chairman of the Brikama Area Council Yankuba Darboe has achieved a substantial deficit reduction in just 100 days in office. The inherited deficit, which stood at over 10 million Gambian Dalasis as of May 2023, has been dramatically slashed to a mere 330,000 Gambian Dalasis by August 31, 2023, thanks to the implementation of a Financial Threshold.

Chairman Darboe, who assumed office following the Mayoral/Chairmanship elections under the United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket, the Chairman embarked on a mission to transform the financial landscape of the council. With an inherited deficit that loomed over the council’s operations, this task was no small feat.
However, through a strategic approach that included the introduction of a Financial Threshold, the Chairman and his team achieved an unprecedented turnaround. The Financial Threshold has enabled the council to rigorously manage its finances, curbing excessive expenditures and optimizing revenue collection.
This impressive achievement has far-reaching implications for the Brikama Area Council and the communities it serves. It signifies a commitment to responsible financial management, ensuring that public funds are allocated efficiently and transparently. The reduction of the deficit will free up resources for essential services and development projects in the region.

Local residents and stakeholders have lauded this remarkable financial transformation, expressing their optimism about the future prospects of the council under its new leadership.
As the Chairman’s tenure progresses, the focus remains on sustaining this positive trajectory and delivering tangible benefits to the people of the Brikama Area. The remarkable deficit reduction stands as a testament to what can be achieved through prudent financial management and unwavering dedication to public service.
