Not any secret, but clear in the picture, @BarrowPresident was desperate for @MayorTalib. So often, he used his persona to persuade, influence, compel and later opted to frustrate, but Talib with an iron fist who hangs on nothing but decency and compassion.. service over ambition.. Integrity above expedience, would never take it any worthwhile to trade [betray] the UDP for the NPP gang. Stressing, ”no amount of money or position can buy me”.
Literally, Talib would’ve been an absolute gem of a bargain deal for the NPP. though, funny but pitiful how low you feel being rejected by an unmatched persona down your radar—President V Mayor. Bitter pill, Barrow couldn’t consume. But hands down, that was no little pick albeit.
Since failing to strike any consensus, Barrow’s caricature of Talib was the only option left on the table. Ill-fated remarks, egocentric choruses, stereotypical portrayal all on Talib — thank God non of their vague propagandas worked. But except for one positive, lesson learned, Barrow knows even on an audition for a play at Broadway musical or on an ass kicking contest in Kathmandu, Talib would still humiliate his Bakz Badjie.
Maybe Barrow’s nightmare, Talib’s arms stretch on that presidency seat. Just like my coloniser Englishman said, “You hang around the barber shop long enough, sooner or later, you’re gonna get a haircut”. He [Barrow] would thinker, “maybe Talib’s the trail that hunts ma blaze”. Barrow animatedly showed the whole world he couldn’t stand Lord Talib’s heat.
However! All that is in the past now. It’s about time we restored absolute normalcy. Ride on a non-partisan spirit, putting country before party and relying upon the good will and highest ideals of the Gambian people. Our economy should be a great taste of national discussion, to address the critical issues we facing as country — high inflation, maverick-like corruption, crumbling health care, unaffordable housing, high unemployment rates and most importantly, unprecedented hard times in our living standards. Clearly, we have a lot of work to do. And as a people of a civilised country, we really deserve better.
Now that the dust has settled after a cracker of an election, I’ll advice @BarrowPresident to man up and know that presidency is bigger than what he just thinks of it. You’ve got to be proactive not reactive.
Walk your shoes, reconcile with Talib, come together, knit the broken bones and strategise as servants of the people. Moreover the spirit which unites us is stronger than the odds that divide us.
