Rising from Gambian Fields to Continental Football Heights!

Gibril Sillah stands out as one of the most technically gifted young footballers in Gambia. At just under 17 years old, the former U-23 star showcased his talent in the locally-staged tournament, ‘Nawettan’, in his hometown of Essau. His outstanding performance caught the eye and earned him a try-out in the country’s top division with the Fortune Football Club coach Jane Joof’s then-managed Samger.

Widely known as ‘Giberi’ in Barra-Essau, Gibril seamlessly adapted to the highest level of Gambian football with Samger FC. Impressive performances led his former coach Jane Joof, now with Fortune FC, to re-sign him for the Petroleum Boys, setting the stage for Giberi’s progression to the Senegalese Premier League with Teungueth FC.

Giberi made an impactful debut in the Senegalese top flight, delivering stellar performances and impressive statistics in his first season with refisque-based club. He continued his success, securing a league triumph in his second season. However, it was his outstanding display in the CAF Confederation Cup that attracted the attention of African giants Raja Casablanca.

Despite joining with high hopes, Giberi faced limited playing time in his first year with Raja. Overcoming challenges, he found success with a loan spell to another Moroccan Botola League side, Jeunesse Sportive Soualem. His goals and assists played a crucial role in helping JS Soualem secure a commendable mid-table finish, ultimately paving the way for his move to Azam FC in Tanzania.

Now with Azam FC in the Tanzanian Premier League, Giberi is in peak form, consistently impressing as one of the top scorers and assist providers. After 12 outings, Azam FC remains at the top of the Tanzanian Premier League, thanks in part to Giberi’s exceptional contributions.

Giberi’s high-performance style, combined with his flair and skill set, reflects his determination to clinch the Tanzanian league title with his new club, Azam FC. In spite of his young age and being far from his peak, Giberi has become an idol for many young footballers in his native Barra-Essau community, a testament to his inspiring journey in the world of football.
